Our dear friend Judy Bartle drove us to Sky Harbor Tuesday morning for the start of our adventure in the Isles. Our first leg, to DFW, went as planned, but when we should have been boarding for our flight out from there to Heathrow, there was a delay due to an "issue" with the plane. We were able to leave after a delay of less than an hour, but shortly after taking off, the pilot announced that one of the generators was not functioning, that we could not cross the Atlantic with less than a full complement of generators, that we had too much fuel to go back and land at DFW, and that we were going to change planes in New York at JFK. We arrived there at 1:00 am and spent about an hour before boarding another plane and finally heading for London. We'd originally bemoaned our expected five-hour layover at Heathrow, but it turned out to be a Godsend; we made it to the gate for our Dublin flight with less than 30 minutes to spare!
Once in Dublin, our hotel was easy to find and so we set out for something to eat. One block away, we found William Ryan's Pub, which we had vivid memories of from our last trip to Dublin 33YEARS AGO!! Of course, that's where we ate and had our first Guiness of the trip; we feel it's a good omen for the upcoming weeks. By the way, Ryans was founded in 1886 and hadn't changed a bit in a mere 33 years!
So, our journey here was long but, had it been necessary, we would gladly have waited a lot longer for the requisite number of generators!
In the morning, we'll pick up a rental car (right next door to Ryan's!) and head north.
